Henry venezuela

Your gift of love gave him
hope for the future!

Henry came to Vacation Bible School listless and sad.

Many children in his home nation of Venezuela feel the strain of their country’s isolation, political chaos, and abysmal economy …

For Henry, it was even worse because his parents had split up. His mother struggled through long hours of work just to provide for the family … Five-year-old Henry felt abandoned and afraid.

But when he received his Bible App for Kids Book of Hope at VBS, things began changing for him! He loved learning the Bible stories in the book — and even told his mother he wanted to learn to read so he could share the stories with his friends!

Today, Henry has chosen to follow Jesus Christ as Savior. His mother is reading through the Book of Hope with him, and she’s thrilled by the joy she sees in her child these days! We’re praying she, too, will soon come to know Christ as Savior.

Thank you for showing Henry the way to new life in Christ and hope for the future.

spiritually strong teens

How to Build a Spiritually Vibrant Young Person
by President Rob Hoskins

What does it mean to live a spiritually vibrant life as a teen? Strong teens live a life of integrity, make healthy choices, have a positive outlook, and pursue a spiritual walk.

Obviously, there are several aspects that play into the spiritual life of teens, but our research showed that three important factors were mission critical:

  1. Family
  2. Faith community
  3. Religious texts

For teenagers not fortunate enough to be living in a positive family environment, can strong engagement with Scripture overcome the negative family environment and still produce spiritually vibrant teens? Findings suggest a partial yes; having a faith community and interacting with sacred texts can still hold sway over a teen’s spiritual life.

If kids don’t have a history of strong family relationships, then the Church can step into the void and be spiritual fathers and mothers to them — spiritually adopt them so that they have a solid family influence.

That’s the job of the Church. In societies where families are being torn apart, we have the obligation and privilege to be spiritual moms and dads and help spiritually nurture and raise the next generation.

As Christian organizations and members of the Body, we must be concerned about the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of teens worldwide. Our goal is to build into them a sense of wholeness and purpose that will allow them to stand strong against the forces that would otherwise shake their faith foundations.

Thank you for helping make this possible and for providing God’s Word through your prayers and generosity!

rose marie

The Transformation
She Never Knew She Needed

“Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished you were someone else?”

Rose Marie stared at the words on the page of her two-year-old Book of Hope, and they took her breath away. YES! She had wished that!

But she’d never thought about it before. She had been too busy.

Her father had suffered a stroke. Her older sister was forced to go to work to support the family, while her mother became a full-time care-giver to her father and worked piecemeal part-time jobs whenever she could.

Rose Marie’s job was to help care for her father and also to excel in school — the whole family was counting on her to graduate with honors, rapidly complete a college degree, and get a good-paying job.

It would be a struggle — but it would be possible — in their home nation of the Philippines.

That struggle had proven overwhelming for Rose Marie, though. She was doing everything expected of her — but she felt isolated, lonely … dead inside. Everything she was doing was for someone else. Not for herself. Why couldn’t she have something better?

Then she read those words in the Book of Hope — they connected with her instantly — and she quickly devoured the rest of the Scripture book and soon committed her life to Christ!

Today, she continues to excel in school and plan for the future, but she’s also joyful in her journey with Jesus, knowing that she can do all things in His strength.

In Africa and beyond, you’re leading the way with Lead Today

lead today teens

Lead Today continues to instruct
and inspire a generation!

Our four-year study, spanning more than 150,000 teens in 44 nations, found that most teenagers don’t understand the importance of developing strong leadership skills — at a time when godly leaders are desperately needed!

To fill this gap, we partnered with John Maxwell’s EQUIP to create Lead Today, a program to help teens discover biblical servant leadership — all based on principles found in God’s Word and the Book of Hope.

It was created for use in Africa but has now expanded to other continents and continues to change lives by the power of God’s Word — and prepare godly leaders for the future!

monique

Monique’s mom says: Thank you!

Monique wouldn’t listen to her mother’s instructions and advice. She was staying out too late, associating with other wild young people … and her mother was fearful for her future.

But then Monique began attending Lead Today classes at her school in the African nation of the Ivory Coast, and everything began to change. From our leadership development program, she was also receiving God’s Word, the message of the Gospel, and Scripture to help her understand how to be a person of character and integrity.

Today her mother says, “Thank you — and thanks to God! Through the course of Lead Today, my daughter has changed.”

Monique is now respectful of her mother, helpful around the house, and focused on how she can use her influence to make a difference in this world. Thanks for sending Lead Today to show her the way.

Nsuma

You supplied the missing link
in their school curriculum

Proud. Confident. That’s how principal Nsuma felt about the students at Works of Faith School in Lusaka, Zambia, and the education they were receiving there. Nevertheless, she longed to see the students grow up with more character and integrity, in addition to academic excellence.

When she heard about our Lead Today program to help teenagers develop godly leadership skills, she was anxious to give it a try. It worked so well with the first class, today Mrs. Nsuma makes sure every student goes through Lead Today before graduation!

“This was the missing link in our curriculum,” she says. “This training is critical in developing leaders, and we are so grateful for it!”

Manvith

A six-year-old ruffian — and the
book that changed his life!

It was too much to bear! Nazarha worked long, hard hours alongside her husband just to keep food on the table for their three children — including six-year-old Manvith.

She did not have the strength to deal with a problem child, but that’s what Manvith was rapidly becoming. As soon as she’d arrive home, once again the neighbors were complaining: Manvith had gotten into another fight, Manvith had disrespected the elders, Manvith was out of control!

They live in a nation with a large Muslim population, and they were Muslims, too, who tried to raise their children to follow all the strict rules … but it wasn’t working for Manvith. And it was breaking his mother’s heart. What would become of her wild child?

She happened to meet a visiting pastor in the village — and shared with him about all the trouble she was having with her small son. How could one little boy be such a handful? Pastor Ethan offered to come and speak to Manvith. Nazarha knew it was unorthodox to invite a Christian minister into their home … but maybe it would help?

Pastor Ethan gave Manvith the Book of Hope and talked with him about the way he was living his life. A few weeks later, Pastor Ethan received this encouraging report: Manvith’s behavior had undergone a radical change for the better!

The little boy was now praying in the name of Jesus for the strength he needed to do the right things. Although it’s perilous for anyone — let alone a child so young — to declare he is changing his religion in this country, all indications are that Manvith is following Christ as his Savior!

Teresa had seen Pablo struggle through many long days of debilitating illness. She had felt like weeping with his family when they wept for him.

But of course, she didn’t — she couldn’t. She was a nurse at the hospital where Pablo was a patient.

Then one day, Pablo received visitors who prayed with him and gave him a special book.

This visit seemed to make all the difference! Soon Pablo was getting better — and when the visitors came again, they left behind more books.

When Teresa saw what they were — the Book of Hope — she says:

“I got on my knees and cried out to God for His love!”

She was thrilled to know that the little boy, his family, and other young patients are receiving the Good News.

Marcus was hoping to become captain of the soccer team, and when he filled out the application, he put down “leadership skills” as one of his talents. He had been through our Lead Today program and knew that he could be a good captain! His coach agreed — and has seen Marcus’ skills in action as he leads the team.

magdalena

Lead Today showed her Jesus as
she had never seen Him before

Magdalena was born into a Christian home in her home nation of Colombia — and like many children who grew up in church, she knew lots of Bible verses, stories, and songs …

But she had never connected what she knew about Jesus with her own life and future. Then, when she was 15, she began attending our Lead Today program that helps teenagers learn what it means to be godly leaders.

She was systematically learning that the Bible stories and Scripture verses could each contribute something important to her character and future.

“It added something important to my life!” she says enthusiastically. “I saw that I could present Jesus through the service of love. I was able to see Jesus as I had not seen Him before — I could see His love and desire to serve.”

Lead Today shows young people how to become an influence for good in their families, schools, and peer groups — a lesson Magdalena has embraced.

“It reinforced issues I had heard in my church without understanding,” Magdalena recalls. “And now I see Jesus as my perfect role model for leadership.”

Thanks for showing Magdalena how to become a godly leader and a great Christian witness. Your gift of God’s Word in the Lead Today program has given her a strong foundation for a bright future.
