JULY 2018

A new life!

The day her mother died, Flossie’s world came crashing down around her.

She was just a little girl, but she stopped playing. Stopped interacting at all with other children or adults. Her father worked far away from home. Flossie bounced from place to place, living with various relatives or acquaintances. It seemed no one really loved her.

Flossie lived every day in fear and pain … void of hope.

But thanks to a friend like you, Flossie was given an everlasting gift: she experienced the true meaning of Christmas!

Flossie lives in a sensitive area, where authorities frown on Christianity. But you helped OneHope equip a ministry team to serve in her village. This past December, they arranged to present a Christmas program for children, and give each child a special Christmas edition of the Book of Hope in the local language.

The effect on Flossie was powerful! Even before the program ended, she quietly approached one of the leaders and began pouring out her heart. Soon Flossie had given her life to a new Friend called Jesus.

Today, Flossie is a new person. She laughs and plays with her friends. Her childhood has been restored … she experienced the life-transforming power of God’s Word.

Thank you for sending OneHope into this very difficult part of the world! You’re making a real difference!

Christmas in July?
It will be for me! by President Rob Hoskins

Thank you for participating in the “Christmas in July” planning that will reach millions of children and youth with God’s Word during the holiday season this year!

By the time you read this, I may be celebrating my own “Christmas in July,” too:

One of the best Christmas presents Kim and I received last year was this news: our first grandchild was on the way and would make his or her arrival this month.

The delight we felt to learn that daughter Diandra and son-in-law Luke were expecting was intense. Then the Scripture Kim read in her devotions the very next day was the same one our pastor preached later that day …

“Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.” — Psalm 51:1-6

Yes, my grandchild will be born into sin and a sinful world, yet the Holy Spirit is already at work inhabiting the secret place.

This stunning reminder that spiritual warfare begins in the womb and follows a child all the days of its life brought up another deep question:

How do we address the confusion and sin so evident in our time, and raise children — or help raise our grandchildren — in our current context?

OneHope helps our global partners answer this question by providing Scripture engagement programs that continually point young people to the truth of God’s Word to find their redemption and hope. Thank you for being a vital part of this.

Sentwali

A life transformed by the power of God’s Word!

The infamous Rwandan genocide happened 12 years before Sentwali was even born … but the reconciliation process continued for the first 10 years of his childhood … and the aftermath is still felt today.1

Rwanda is a wounded nation — but the horrors of that time are healing, and life for boys like Sentwali has become normal again.

For him, in fact, life was good. His parents loved him. They provided a stable home — and although they traveled quite a lot, Sentwali always had his way at home. The house girl and babysitter did whatever he asked — including letting him in and out of the house at night so his parents didn’t know and covering for him when he was out smoking with friends!

Sentwali’s parents weren’t concerned, because they didn’t know about his double life, and he always did very well in school … But, Sentwali cheated to get good grades! His whole life was a lie … and he was only 12 years old.

But then you sent the Book of Hope for Sentwali. He learned about the love of God, and the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross to save him. And today, by God’s grace Sentwali is a changed boy!

He committed his life to Christ — and his destructive behaviors began changing. Today, he studies instead of cheating so he can make good grades. He has quit smoking and no longer roams the streets at night.

Christmas is GLOBAL! Thanks for sharing Jesus!

christmas in ethipoia

Ethiopia

It’s a different world for Christians in Ethiopia. The culture is so distinct, people don’t even celebrate most of the same holidays as Christians in other parts of the world.

But Christmas is global! Ethiopian Christians celebrate the birth of Christ by inviting their non-Christian friends to church on Christmas Eve. There are special programs for children and youth. High schoolers invite their non-Christian friends to attend, and they celebrate with songs and drama. Thanks to OneHope, our church partners receive special Christmas Scripture engagement programs — a special-edition Book of Hope called Amazing Letter, depicting Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection.

bafk gift box

Russia

Our Bible App for Kids has been a huge hit around the world, and at Christmas time we leveraged its popularity by producing Bible App for Kids gift boxes, to share with orphans in Russia. Each box was filled with candy and included a Bible storybook. We shared 10,000 of them — a beautiful Christmas gift pointing orphaned children to the love of their heavenly Father!

Sensitive Areas/Middle East

Christmas is a time of celebration even in the heart of the Middle East. It’s an opportunity to extend Christian outreach in ways that aren’t possible the rest of the year.

Our ministry partners in one nation mounted a Christmas program tour in 30 schools and other public spaces, presenting the story of the shepherds confronted by the angel, and distributing 28,646 copies of our Christmas book (including 600 across the border in a neighboring majority-Muslim area).

Pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ in the Middle East, as new Christmas outreaches are launched this year!

Christmas in uganda

Uganda

Uganda’s people love to celebrate Christmas! There’s plenty of food, folks dress up, families gather from far and wide. Churches produce tremendous celebrations, distributing copies of Stories of Hope — all thanks to the generous support of friends like you!

And through it all, by God’s grace and power, lives change. A young man named Bright was especially uncommitted. But Christmas changed things for him! As his church prepared for its special Christmas programs, they gathered all their volunteers to watch The GodMan film. Bright was overwhelmed by the reality of God’s love — and he dedicated himself to the Lord then and there.

From that moment, he was transformed. His passion for God’s work is enormous. He plunged into ministry, enrolled in seminary, and began energetically serving in his church!

This Christmas, Uganda’s churches are preparing to also share Christ through sports — in refugee camps! Thousands of children and families have fled violence in other African countries, and have lived so long in Uganda’s camps that life has taken on some resemblance of “normal” — including youth sports leagues. Churches will organize special competitions and distribute the Champion edition of the Book of Hope — sharing Christ with many hundreds of young people and their families!

Malaysia

Your support enabled our ministry partners in Malaysia to include a copy of our Christmas Stories of Hope book in each box of provisions for 2,000 poor and needy families. The Gospel was preached, and your love made an impact! Thank you!

Christmas in July?

Christmas in July. Sounds crazy. But it’s not crazy. It’s beautiful.

If we start planning now, we can lead more children to Jesus this Christmas.

Christmas is the perfect time to present the Gospel — especially to the children of Asia.

Multitudes across this continent have no idea what Christmas is really about, but there are still huge celebrations in many areas. Music! Lights! Parties! Decorations! Gifts!

But no Jesus.

People wonder, What is this holiday really all about?

That’s where you and I come in. Your support for OneHope today will mean the truth about Christmas, the truth about Jesus, shared with huge numbers of children and families across Asia and beyond, during the holiday season.

ZhengYang

GOD’S WORD. EVERY CHILD.
Christmas changes everything!

His family could only be described as dysfunctional. In their little fishing village on the southern coast of Taiwan, fifth-grader Zheng-Yang was miserable.

Even after a local church launched an after-school program, and Zheng-Yang and his sister began attending, he was still glum about life.

But Christmas has a way of breaking through the darkness!

As the holiday approached, the pastor’s wife gave a gift to each child in the after-school program: the Bible App for Kids Book of Hope.

Reading through it, Zheng-Yang was deeply moved. Suddenly he was asking the after-school leader for more information: Can you tell me more about Jesus?

Today, young Zheng-Yang is a cheerful follower of Christ. He enthusiastically participates in not only the after-school program, but also a Saturday kids’ club — and Sunday school. And he’s praying for his parents.

Christmas makes a difference! Thank you for supporting OneHope’s Christmas outreaches! Lives will change, by God’s grace, thanks to your generosity today!

NATION BY NATION

mangamission

GREENLAND

There’s no church in Tasiilag, a town of just 1,800 in Greenland. But 200 gathered in a hall to view a film about Jesus.

Teens and adults received copies of Manga Mission, the special-edition Book of Hope created in Manga style, an Eastern comic and cartoon art.

Many of those who received the book also received Christ as Lord and Savior!

The following Sunday, some decided to hold a church service in one of their homes. They didn’t announce it, but word spread — and 40 people showed up!

A woman read to the group from Manga Mission and explained the truth about salvation. God was there! People confessed their sin, repented, and asked God to set them free from bondage.

Something is happening in Greenland — thanks to your support of OneHope!

Fitahiana

SOUTH AFRICA

Fitahiana loves God’s Big Story. She’s a 13-year-old who once struggled in school, and may have been headed for disaster. But then a local church began offering God’s Big Story — and she was captivated by the love of the Lord and gave her life to Christ. She dreams of becoming a doctor someday. Meanwhile, she’s loving school, and “ready to face the future!”

SENSITIVE NATION

Hinduism was all that Kankan had ever known. Even as a young teen, he was a devout worshiper of his family’s gods. But then he received the Book of Hope. By the time he came to the prayer at the end of the book, he was ready to commit his life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Today, Kankan is thriving as a young believer, active in the local church, and praying for his family. Pray with him!
