Christmas in July? Yes!
Now is the time to plan bold holiday outreaches

Christmas in July may sound crazy — but it’s actually crucial —

— crucial to reaching millions of children and youth with God’s Word during November and December this year. Now is the time to prepare for these powerful outreaches.

Christmas is the perfect time to present the Gospel to the next generation— especially to the children of Asia.

Millions across this continent have no idea what Christmas is, but there are still huge celebrations in many areas. Music! Lights! Parties! Decorations! Gifts! But no Jesus — so people wonder, “What is this holiday really all about?”

Our church partners answer that question by sharing the truth about Jesus with millions across Asia. This is the season when hearts are open, and with special outreaches and customized Scripture engagement programs, we can share the Good News in wonderful ways!

The Greatest Gift
by President Rob Hoskins

In many cultures, the celebration of Christmas is primarily marked by gift-giving. Researchers tell us that U.S. shoppers will, on average, spend $929 on gifts this holiday season. Some people spend months saving, planning, and finally purchasing that perfect gift for their loved ones, but no gift bought in a store compares to the truly perfect gift of Christ in a manger.

The commercialization of Christmas is on the rise. Each year, companies invest substantial resources to promote the holiday season and push their offerings — which has actually benefited Kingdom work.

Global interest in holiday festivities means opportunities to present people with the Gospel — the true story of Christmas. OneHope’s global Christmas outreaches have grown exponentially over the years. Just a few years ago, we distributed a little over 500,000 copies of our Christmas-edition Book of Hope throughout the Asia-Pacific region. By God’s grace, this year throughout Asia-Pacific, Southern Asia, and Central Eurasia we’ll reach 12 million!

I have always known that Christmas is an important season for ministry, but these numbers remind me just how wide open the door is for sharing the Good News because of the importance countries around the world places on this holiday.

We’ll reach millions of young people through global Christmas outreaches this year. Each one of these millions is a child with a story with hopes and dreams, just like my own daughters. I am praying that these young people will have powerful encounters with God’s Word as they learn how Christ, the greatest gift to humanity, came to the world.

Astrid in venezuela

Your gift of God’s Word gave her hope!

The nation is in chaos. Political turmoil in Venezuela has resulted in hyperinflation, astounding levels of poverty, and a mass exodus of 3 million people trying to escape the disastrous situation.

Blackouts in the spring impacted 15 out of 23 states in the nation — and students in those areas were only able to attend school for 10 days the whole month of March 1 .

It isn’t fair — and it has given rise to hopelessness among young people like Astrid. She’s a teenager, but she sees no future for herself in her homeland. She responds to the crisis with bitterness, anger, and lashing out — even at those closest to her.

She lost herself in rage, fighting with friends, family, and strangers … until you reached out to her. You sent The GodMan film to introduce her to the Lord. In the movie, Astrid saw a Savior who cared enough for her to lay down His own life to save her.

Astrid chose to dedicate her life to Christ!

Today with God’s help, the bitterness is draining out of her life and heart. She’s begun treating her family with love and respect — and has even joined a ministry team at church, so she can share the Good News that has given her hope and a future.

Thank you for reaching out to Astrid. In the midst of a troubled time for her nation, you helped her find her way to new life in Christ

They had heard about Christmas —
but didn’t know about Jesus

This nation of Asia is so opposed to Christianity, believers there are often the subject of persecution —

Nevertheless, last Christmas they stood together to reach out to children at Christmastime, sharing the Gospel in a special-edition Book of Hope.

Although most of the children and young people they reached had no idea who Jesus was, most of them did know about Christmas: a time for parties, singing, putting up holiday lights, and celebrating!

When they had the opportunity to be part of a Christmas celebration, they were excited to join and even more thrilled to receive their own special book that explained what Christmas is all about.

Our partners presented God’s Word to 1,027 children and youth — and 565 children made the decision to follow Jesus!

BOH in russia

Their very first Christmas gifts

Two single moms struggled to raise their children alone in the small town of Ozerky in the Altai region of Russia —

The Altai Republic is the least populated region of Russia; it’s actually on the continent of Asia in the West Siberian region. Much of its population has more in common with their Turkish and Kazakh neighbors than with ethnic Russians.

Providing for little ones as a single mother here is difficult. When the local church reached out to these two families, it was like a lifeline! The children received the Book of Hope, and their mothers heard the Gospel, too — and everyone chose to follow Jesus!

The families began attending church, and one of the most exciting things was at Christmastime, when their church family came together to make sure the children received Christmas gifts — for the first time ever!

The children and their mothers were thrilled! And the little ones not only thanked their church family, but remembered to thank the Lord, too:

“Dear Jesus, thank you for this church!”

Thank you for helping our Russian partners reach out to more children and youth with God’s Word — and His love — this Christmas!

ishimwe from uganda

Hope for a mother’s heart

She had many heartaches. Muteteli’s husband had left her for another woman. She was struggling to provide for herself and her son Ishimwe in their village in Rwanda.

Muteteli wanted her son to become a good man, and she tried to get him to go to church with her … but already at age 10, he was spending his days out on the streets, roaming with other village boys — only coming home late at night. His disrespect and aggression toward his mother just added to her pain.

Thank God, you were there for her … and for Ishimwe. You sent the God’s Big Story program to their village. The local church organized sports and games to coincide with the God’s Big Story club — and Ishimwe couldn’t stay away. He wanted to play soccer with the other boys, so he also attended the club meetings.

He didn’t expect to be so touched by what he learned! Day-by-day as they heard new stories from the Bible and received trading cards with illustrations of each story, Ishimwe was discovering the truth of the Gospel … By the time he had collected all 16 cards, he had been introduced to Jesus — and chose to dedicate his life to Him!

Today by God’s grace, everything has changed for Ishimwe and his mother — she has seen a tremendous transformation in his speech and behavior, as well as school: he’s attending classes, and his grades have improved.

Thank you for sending God’s Word to bring hope and healing to Ishimwe and Muteteli. What a difference your love made!

UKRAINE

Sunrise Church says, “Thank you!” Sunrise Church began using the Book of Hope and other Scripture programs to reach out to children and youth in their city of Dnipro, back in 2015. The church grew so much, they were able to build their own building and have just moved in — and this in addition to five smaller ministry centers for children and youth in nearby villages!

lubin from venezuela

VENEZUELA

Lubin was blessed to have Christian parents, but he was rebellious and disrespectful to them … until he saw the OneHope film, En Tus Manos (In Your Hands) — it spoke to his heart about the way he was living his life, and he chose to follow Jesus instead! Today, he’s obedient to his parents, and he also leads a children’s group at his church.

SOUTH AFRICA

Our Lead Today program is making a big impact in Africa, showing teenagers how to become godly leaders. One group coordinator reports, “The teens absolutely love the concept … What came from it were things like taking off their masks, or truly living like a tree that bears fruit … The teens are really engaging with it.”

Introducing … a new God

Growing up in a majority Hindu nation, Rohan had already seen lots of movies and cartoons about the various traditional gods. The TV programs taught him how to please many deities —

But he didn’t really do as the programs instructed. He lied. He cheated in school. He stole things he wanted. He disrespected and disobeyed his parents.

He knew he wasn’t pleasing the gods or his family. His friend Vijay tried to help — by introducing him to a new God: Jesus Christ. Vijay claimed Jesus was the only true God! Rohan didn’t understand this at all.

Thankfully, Rohan was able to come to a Children’s Bible Club with Vijay. Here, in addition to learning new songs, playing games and making crafts, Rohan also received his own copy of the Book of Hope and was able to read for himself about Jesus Christ.

Rohan came to understand that Jesus really could help him to be the kind of person he wanted to be. He chose to dedicate his life to Christ alone!

From that day forward, Rohan had confidence that Jesus was helping him as he quit stealing, lying and disobeying his parents.

Today, Rohan is praying his little sister and parents will soon come to know Christ as Savior, too. Please join with him in this prayer. We are believing together for the salvation of his whole family
