Reach twice as many children
and youth with God’s Word!

For a limited time only, the Africa’s Light Matching Challenge will DOUBLE your gift to share God’s Word with the children of French-speaking Africa!

You will not only reach children and youth with the Gospel, but you will also help our partners plant new churches to build up the new believers in their faith.

Pastor Enu is among our church-planting partners in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He launched a new church in the village of Kikwit, using OneHope Scripture engagement programs to share God’s Word with the children.

Eighty young people came to faith — and now they and 100 adults are all worshiping together. And Pastor Enu continues to reach out to young people in other villages and plant new churches. This is critical for the nations of the Sahel where Islam and ancient tribal religions are strong.

Young people need a foundational faith to stay strong in the Lord.

Today, you can impact more children in Africa because your gift will be doubled.

Usually a single dollar provides three children and youth with God’s Word — but today the Africa’s Light Matching Challenge will double each gift so every dollar reaches SIX young people!

God’s timing for
French-speaking Africa

The Sahel region of Africa is the belt of land stretching from east to west that slices the continent in half more than just topographically.

One of the poorest places on earth, the Sahel represents a desperate merging of disparate religions and cultures: Muslims, Christians, and animists… nomads and farmers… Arabs and African tribes. There is constant animosity, as groups clash, while attempting to conquer each other and the elements, hoping to lay claim to their homeland.

Today in these majority Muslim nations, we see a miraculous move of God taking place: everywhere the seed of God’s Word is thrown, it takes root, and new believers thrive.

It feels similar to what we experienced in Russia in the 1990s. After the Iron Curtain came down, people were hungry for hope and open to the Gospel. You could not plant churches fast enough for the amount of people coming to know Christ and desiring to grow in that knowledge.

But we were ready because God laid it on our hearts to have materials, partners, and programs prepared and in place for evangelism and church planting for that nation — even WHILE it was still closed to the Gospel!

You helped create an oasis of peace
in a troubled land!

The Democratic Republic of Congo has its share of heartaches — poverty, disease, violence.

But Pastor Jean Marc, one of our church-planting partners, established an oasis of peace for children and youth, through Vacation Bible School, using The GodMan film and the Book of Hope to introduce young people to Jesus.

The first day, 105 children attended. The second day — 145! Now the children who came to know Christ during this outreach are part of a growing Christian community.

Lives are being transformed as the entire town is impacted by this church.

Pastor Jean Marc’s church is one of nearly 2,000 new churches already established as part of the Lumière Project in Africa’s Sahel region. And we’re excited to watch it grow!

We are seeing the same cycle again in the Sahel throughout the French-speaking nations we’re reaching through the Lumière Project.

Pray for the people of the Sahel, as they hear that they have a choice to turn away from violence, hopelessness, and despair and accept Jesus who can guide their steps and shape a future of peace.

The Lumière Project: reaching nearly
7 million children and youth in French-speaking Africa

You are shining the light of God’s love!

The Lumière Project is a multi-year, multi- denominational outreach to 11 nations of French-speaking Africa with the goal of sharing God’s Word with 6.9 million children and youth.

As local churches reach out, they are also using OneHope programs as the foundation for planting new churches where young people who receive Christ can grow in their faith, and bring their families.

➢ 11 countries are participating.
➢ 1,851 churches were planted through May 2019.
➢ 91 languages are spoken among the church plants.
➢ 96 denominations are represented.
➢ 3 out of 4 church plants have a children’s program.
➢ 85% are located in Animist or Muslim communities.

Africa’s Sahel: A region in need

Most of the Lumière Project nations are in the Sahel region of Africa. The Sahel runs east to west from the Red Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. Many are majority Muslim nations, and they’re also some of the most impoverished and difficult in the world.

Imagine living in one of the poorest nations of the world — or in a nation where the life expectancy is just 44 years … where Islamist terrorists have driven entire communities to flee for their lives … where 80% of the people can’t read … where only 2% of the people are Christians — and they’re at daily risk of persecution.

These are the circumstances facing the various nations of French-speaking Africa targeted by The Lumière Project.

Our partner churches and pastors are at high risk in many nations of the Sahel — especially as they engage the next generation with God’s Word in Muslim-majority areas. Yet they are willing to take this risk for the sake of reaching children, young people, and families with the Gospel!

A gift of joy for Giva

Giva was only 13. But she already felt like her life was over. No happiness, no hope, no future.

Her father was dead. Her mother struggled hard every day just to provide something for her family to eat … but it was never enough, and they fell into even deeper poverty.

Giva’s traditional religion taught her that capricious gods might be persuaded to bless them — if the family was able to give offerings, or performed rituals … but they were too poor, and the idols were deaf to their cries.

The physical hunger and hopelessness wore Giva down.

But then the pastor from a local village began going door-to-door in Giva’s poor community, and gave her the Book of Hope. Giva learned about Jesus Christ. For the first time she could remember, Giva felt joy — and hope!

She dedicated her life to Christ and is now growing in her faith at the local church.

Thank you for bringing joy into Giva’s life by sending her the Word of God!

Strategic year-end giving —
reach twice as many children
and youth with God’s Word!

Now is a great time for strategic year-end giving, because the Africa’s Light Matching Challenge will match every gift up to the $500,000 fund total.

If you’re 70-1/2 years or older, consider a rollover gift from your IRA. You can transfer up to $100,000 from your IRA, without adding to your taxable income … and you also receive tax benefits that don’t require you to itemize on your tax return!

Or consider a gift of appreciated stocks or property — when you donate them instead of selling them and then donating the proceeds, you avoid capital gains tax and may give more to ministry.

We know tax advantages aren’t the reason you give, but strategic year-end giving can help you reach even more children and youth with God’s Word!

MADAGASCAR

Marinah finds new hope in Christ!

She knew what it was to go hungry. Marinah’s father had abandoned the family years ago, leaving her mother struggling to feed them. Her mother sold vegetables on the street. Some days she made so little money … there was no food on the table at all.

Marinah had seen some young women who always had money and food, plus jewelry and clothes, too. They were selling their bodies, but at least they didn’t go hungry. Although Marinah was only 11 years old, she had a plan to become a prostitute. But then she took part in the Hope for Kids program at the local church, our partnership with Kids’ Evangelism Explosion, and received a special edition Book of Hope. Marinah learned that Jesus loved her and would always make a way for her. And she abandoned her plan to become a prostitute, so that she could follow Christ as Savior!

Today, Marinah and her whole family are attending church together, and Marinah herself is filled with hope for the future!

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Jolivette had the opportunity to take part in our Lead Today program that helps share the Gospel and build godly leaders. She’s excited and says that it is because “we learned that to be a good leader, we must imitate Christ in all areas of our lives.” Jolivette has made the commitment to do so — and help lead other young people to faith in Him

SENSITIVE NATION

In an Asian nation that’s hostile toward the Gospel, a Sunday School teacher recently received training in using OneHope programs to reach children with the Good News. She has already visited 5 villages, sharing the Good News with 150 children! She’s also assisting in training other adults and feels the call to full-time Christian ministry.

A teenage boy transformed by
the power of God’s Word!

You’ve seen the news reports—a once thriving country is in complete distress after years of economic freefall and social chaos. Life is not easy in Venezuela, and for a child like Bruno, it can seem hopeless.

Bruno’s father is an alcoholic. His addiction made him neglect his family, leaving Bruno feeling fatherless.

But Bruno couldn’t rely on his mother, either. She was seldom home and never there for him.

His only stable influence was an uncle who helped raise him, but Bruno felt rejected and unloved by both parents — and he began acting out in aggressive ways, including stealing from his own family members.

Thank God for The GodMan film! Bruno saw it after some local Christian young people invited him to an outreach event at their church. He was amazed to see the love Jesus had for everyone — including thieves like him!

It was the first time Bruno had ever heard the Gospel story … and he responded by dedicating his life to Jesus Christ!

Today, Bruno is being transformed by God’s love. He has stopped stealing. He has also reconnected with his parents — and although they still have their own struggles, Bruno has forgiven them and treats them with love and respect. His relationship with his uncle has also improved.

Bruno’s parents have been so impressed with the changes in him, his father is investigating the possibility of life without alcohol! Please pray for Bruno and his family — we believe they will all soon come to faith in Christ.
