Hard-to-reach places?
You're there!

Sensitive and Hard-to-reach Places

33 of these countries are on the World Watch List for the most intense persecution of Christians. In addition, there are nations we work in that we can’t even mention the country name. Our 2018 faith goal for these 41 nations is to reach 53 million children and youth.

Pre-readers and illiterate

Two primary programs:

  1. God’s Big Story, the series of illustrated cards that children collect as they learn the major stories of the Bible active in 42 nations, with a 2018 faith goal of reaching 3,860,950 children and youth.
  2. The GodMan film, a live-action, animated retelling of the story of Christ’s life, designed to innovatively share God’s Word with children all over the world who can’t read, or in places where Gospel literature can’t go. The film has been translated into 80 languages and is active in 49 nations, with a 2018 faith goal of reaching 12,646,600 children and youth.

Thanks for helping to reach the next generation — even in the hard-to-reach places!

Your gift of God’s Word
transformed their family!

She loved to hear the Bible stories her little boy brought home from school — Prithvi and her family live in a “sensitive” region in a majority-Hindu nation, but her son Nihant attended
Christian school, where he often heard stories from the Bible — and always re-told them to his mother and sister
at home.

Of course as Hindus, they knew stories of many gods, but to Prithvi, Bible stories seemed different and beautiful. She loved them so much; when the family moved to a bigger city, she found a Christian church to take her children to — in hopes of hearing more Bible stories.

There Nihant and his sister Adhip heard about the Bible App for Kids. Their mother downloaded it for them, and the whole family began playing the games and learning the stories together. Prithvi began to think there was something more to this Bible than just stories about various gods …

She began to believe there was only one true God!

The problem was … their country is on the World Watch List for worst persecution of Christians. Prithvi knew if she grew any deeper in this Christian faith, she might be causing trouble for herself and her children.

But she couldn’t deny what she was learning from the App.

Today Prithvi, Nihant, and Adhip are all following Christ as Savior. They continue to attend their church, learn more about Jesus and grow in God — and of course, they’re still using the Bible App for Kids, too.

Thank you for reaching out to them with the Good News about Jesus!

Affect (Manifest) Destiny… how you’re delivering God’s Word to every child!
by President Rob Hoskins

Four small words made up of less than 20 letters, yet one behemoth undertaking.

When I tried to put down on paper a plan that would take this to mission fulfillment, it was practically inconceivable … until I got railroaded into clarity with a visual:

Like the “impossible” dream of Asa Whitney, who championed the building of the First Transcontinental Railroad, it suddenly made sense to me that we didn’t have to mine all of the resources, scout all of the territory, and go ourselves to drive stakes and fell the timber that would connect east to west.

Asa just had to figure out where sections of railroad already existed, where they were being built, and how they could all be connected to link the nation coast-tocoast. Similarly, we had to figure out where churches and ministries were already reaching local children and youth — how we could help them — and how to fill in any gaps.

A lot of the gaps, it turns out, were in the “hard-toreach” places of the world, which makes sense: areas where there’s fierce opposition to the Gospel and areas that are isolated by geography or by language.

But as you’re reading in this Global Report, the doors are opening to reach the hard-to-reach places! And God has raised up friends like you to equip our local partners with programs to proclaim the Good News to children and youth — even in the hard-to-reach places and other dangerous sensitive nations. Thank you!

How you’re reaching the next generation — even at the ends of the earth

Child cancer patients are receiving hope from God’s Word!

Eight months in the hospital … That’s brutal for any child.

But in Zambia, child victims of cancer can spend that long, or even longer, hospitalized as they undergo their chemotherapy treatments.

A young woman named Ntenji, and her friend Thabo, had a heart to do something to bring hope and cheer to these little ones … but they didn’t know how — until Ntenji went to a OneHope training program and discovered God’s Big Story.

Now you can find her and Thabo in the children’s ward every Sunday at 3 p.m., facilitating a God’s Big Story club for the children! It’s the highlight of the week for these little ones: to receive love and prayers from their new friends — to learn a Bible story — andget to keep their very own God’s Big Story card for the week.

And for those who aren’t able to get out of bed and attend the club meeting, Ntenji and Thabo bring the party to them — they stop by with the Bible App for Kids on a phone or tablet and personally share it with the children.

Young lives are being changed by your gift of God’s Word, even in the hospital

Pray for your partners in sensitive areas

Many people know that Christians are subject to persecution in majority Muslim nations, but as the stories in the Global Report show, believers can be at risk in many nations, including majority Hindu and Buddhist areas.

On the Open Doors’ World Watch List of the 50 nations with the highest persecutionof believers, there are nations in Africa, the Middle East and Asia … and even nations in Latin America.

This is why we’re so thankful that God has raised up bold witnesses who are willing to share His Word with the next generation, even in these “sensitive” areas.

Although they may be risking their safety, or even their lives, they are willing to do so. All they ask is that we supply the Scripture engagement programs to help them connect the children and youth with God’s Word.

Thank you for equipping these Christians with the tools to reach the next generation with the Gospel. Please pray for them as they reach out to the children and youth!

abby

Where missionaries can’t go — a
student becomes a missionary!

Missionaries don’t go to her “sensitive” nation.

It’s a traditionally Buddhist region where strict governmental controls regulate many aspects of life, including religion. For decades, believers experienced horrifying religious persecution … some were imprisoned, and others even martyred for their faith.

A young Christian girl named Abby had received the Book of Hope in her Sunday school class and asked for several more copies to give to her friends.

She knew she was taking a risk when she brought the Book of Hope to school, to distribute to her classmates. Some of them immediately rejected it and laughed at her because of her faith in Jesus!

But then … some of the children began reading the books … and asking Abby more about Jesus. She invited them to come to church with her — and even more exciting, their parents allowed them to go!

Today, several of Abby’s friends are following Jesus and attending church with her because of the extra copies of the Book of Hope you sent to her, to give to them.

Thank you for going with us where missionaries cannot go — and sharing the life-transforming Word of God with children in desperate need — even in the hard-to-reach places!

How to maximize the impact of your
year-end giving — start planning today

Now is the time to plan for your best tax advantage and the greatest impact of your year end charitable giving. Some things to keep in mind:

• If you are 70-1/2 years or older, you can donate up to $100,000 as a rollover from your IRA without adding to your taxable income for 2018, and it counts as part of your required minimum distribution.

• Assets you’ve held for more than a year which have appreciated in value can be donated, generating a tax-break for the fair market value of the stocks, property, or other valuables — and you may avoid capital gains tax as well. In most cases this makes an even greater ministry impact than selling the property and donating the proceeds.

• An outright gift of cash, processed by December 31, also applies to this year’s taxes. And of course, every single dollar donated will share God’s Word with three children and youth somewhere in the world! Thank you for being part of this global movement to reach the next generation!

For answers to questions about year-giving, donation of appreciated assets, an IRA rollover, or other tax-wise ways to give, please contact Will Thomas at willthomas@onehope.net or 1.800.GIV.BIBL (448.2425) today.

SENSITIVE NATION

Looking at Vishan, you’d never guess that the 10-year-old’s sweet, smiling face was hiding a rotten core! But that’s how his parents and teachers felt: Vishan was disrespectful, disobedient, told lies, and was generally thought of as a troublemaker!

But then he happened to meet one of our partners, a local pastor, who was distributing the Book of Hope to children in the neighborhood. Vishan took the book and was eager to read it … he was amazed by the story of Jesus and even began praying to Jesus right away.

In Vishan’s majority Hindu nation, people pray to many gods … but Vishan surprised the pastor the next time they met by telling him: he had dedicated his life to Christ! And Vishan’s parents confirmed: there had been a big transformation in their son’s behavior!

Today, this pastor continues to visit the family and encourage Vishan’s parents to join him in following Jesus Christ.

nayeli

MEXICO

In the hospital in critical condition, five-year-old Nayeli didn’t know she might die — she just knew she was in terrible pain!  She’d accidentally drunk poison. Her mother was desperate — when she saw the visiting team from the  local church, she asked them to pray for Nayeli. They prayed and also gave her the Book of Hope.  Today, Nayeli is completely well — and she and her mother are following Jesus!

Abraham

VENEZUELA

His nation is in economic and political chaos, and Abraham knew it was “survival of the fittest” on the streets, so he tried to be as tough as he could be — but then he saw our short film, En Tus Manos (In Your Hands). It showed him a better way to find hope for the future — by trusting in Jesus! Today, Abraham is following Christ as Savior.

ethiopia

ETHIOPIA

Two little boys — Elias and Yohanes — are growing in faith through the Stories of Hope program and felt God’s leading to share Jesus with other children in their neighborhood. That’s how Abyiot — a boy from a poor family — heard the Gospel for the first time and accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. Now, the three boys all go to church together and are walking with Jesus daily!

GOD’S WORD. EVERY CHILD.
She was leading a double life, until —

Her grandmother took her to church — Exis knew how Christians were supposed to act.

But while Exis knew how Christians were supposed to be … she missed the part about how Christians are followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, the living God, who loves them and lives in them.

So while she pretended to be a Christian, to make her grandmother happy, Exis didn’t really know Jesus at all. And when no one was watching, she lived her own way — no prayer, no Bible reading, no serving, no giving, no putting others first.

She was only a teenager — and already living a double life!

Until she received the Book of Hope. For the very first time, in the pages of her book, Exis read about the Lord Jesus … who He was … why He came to earth and died on the cross … and suddenly Exis realized:

Being a Christian wasn’t about how you were supposed to act or the things you were supposed to do or not do. Being a Christian was about saying, “YES!” to Jesus Christ, who loved her and had laid down His life to save her.

Exis chose to place her faith in Jesus. And her decision has made a big transformation in her life. Today, not only does Exis attend church with her grandma, but her parents noticed the dramatic change in her, and they started attending church, too.

The entire family is being transformed because of the Gospel that Exis found in the Book of Hope.
