mariana

You gave her the courage to face the
future — with Forgiveness

Her mother abandoned her. Mariana was only one month old.

She never knew her father.

Mariana was fortunate her grandparents took her in; at least she had some family and love in her life. But times were hard for them; their home nation of Venezuela has been in a dire economic crisis since 2016 with tragic societal upheaval as well.

Then, tragedy struck: Mariana’s grandfather was killed!

Seven-year-old Mariana had already been upset at her mother for leaving her. Now she became embittered toward everything and everyone. She was lost in grief and hopelessness.

It was her grandmother, struggling with her own bereavement, who first took them to the neighborhood church. Here Mariana received the Book of Hope and began attending Kids’ Church … and slowly, things began to change for her.

She saw there was still some hope and happiness in the world. Through reading her book about Jesus, she came to understand that no matter what had gone wrong in her life, God would always love her and never leave her.

Mariana committed her life to Christ, while attending Kids’ Church. Today, she is letting go of bitterness, and together with her church family, she is learning to celebrate the good things she still has in life. She has even found the strength to forgive her mother for abandoning her and to move forward in love and faith.

Thank you for sending God’s Word to bring hope to Mariana!

Children in Chennai

To strive, to seek, to find,
and Not to Yield

The world has changed dramatically over the last few decades … so has the philosophical approach to global ministry and how the Gospel is shared with children and youth. I often share what I know about global macro trends in order to help churches and organizations prepare now for what ministry is going to look like a year, five years, or even a decade in the future.

I’ve compiled a short list of the 7 macro trends I think are the most important for the Global Church to understand and strategize around both now and in the near future. Each trend links to a more in-depth explanation of what it looks like for the Church to be prepared to support through missions both now and in the coming days.

You can find the entire list on my blog. But for this moment, I would like you to consider Trend #2, the elephant in the room of nearly 2 billion people in the sensitive nations found in Southern Asia and Asia Pacific, where missionaries cannot go, local believers are the minority, and many millions remain unreached by the Gospel.

I would suggest for many Western churches and Christians, this trend is largely unrecognized, but for you and OneHope, there is a strategy to reach these regions: working hand-in-hand with brave local believers sharing Jesus with the next generation and training them to become the leaders who influence their nations.

This Global Report tells you more about these sensitive regions and how you’re reaching them. Thank you for partnering with us in this critical work!

Gian

He went from heartache and
hopelessness to New Life in Christ!

Gian’s father died — and the family was plunged into grief … and poverty.

They live in a majority Hindu region in one of the sensitive nations of Asia where there’s intense opposition to the Gospel.

Gian’s mother was forced to find work as a servant, struggling to keep the family fed.

Gian himself suffered with depression after his father’s death and was haunted by hopelessness. He saw no way out of the bleak circumstances and even thought about taking his own life.

But then a friend like you sent the Book of Hope, and Gian read about Jesus, the one true God, who loved him and would care for him, no matter what.

He chose to follow Christ as Savior! Today, he is faithfully attending services at his local church, and talking to his mother about how she, too, can come to know the Lord.

Please pray with us for Gian’s family to soon make a commitment to Jesus. Thank you for giving him the eternal hope of God’s Word!

Matthew & Friends helps local believers learn to share their faith

Deadly PERSECUTION!

Believers in the sensitive regions of Asia may experience it every day!

But OneHope has global partners who understand the urgency of sharing God’s Word with the next generation and are willing to risk persecution to reach the children and youth. One problem is that it’s often extremely difficult to get a child to come to church or a Christian outreach.

However, Christian children and local believers are free to share the Gospel with their neighbors, friends, and peers … which is why our partners created the Matthew & Friends program. It draws its inspiration from the apostle Matthew, who when called by Jesus to become a disciple invited all his friends to his house to meet Jesus!

Christians in the Matthew & Friends program receive special training in how to demonstrate the love of Christ for their neighbors and peers, then open their homes to have friends over to work through the SuperBook edition of the Book of Hope, which is available in languages for 5 different sensitive areas.

The program launched this year, and our partners believe it will reach 5 million children and youth by the end of 2019! We’re excited to see how this program grows in 2020!

Her mother is in prison …her grandmother can barely provide for her … but last Christmas, You Reached Out to Her

Christmas is a huge season for global outreach — and our partners worldwide are gearing up to reach millions of children with the Good News this holiday season.

Last year, Russian churches were part of the Angel’s Christmas Tree Project for children whose parents are in prison.

One little girl whose mother is in prison was facing a difficult Christmas season, living with only her grandmother … but then the church team prepared a tea for her and Grandma, gave the little girl gifts, and best of all, shared the Gospel message with her in the Book of Hope.

Thanks for making stories like this possible! Remember our partners are preparing for Christmas outreaches, right now — please keep them in your prayers.

Get a Tax Break, Too

As you plan your year-end charitable giving, consider this:

Now may be the time for you to make a big ministry impact — with a rollover donation to OneHope from your IRA.

If you’re 70-1/2 years or older, you are eligible to give up to $100,000 from your IRA without adding a penny to your taxable income! A rollover gift allows you to save on taxes and counts toward your required minimum IRA distributions.

Because every $1 reaches three children and youth, taking advantage of this tax-wise giving option enables you to make a HUGE impact. For example …

  • You could rollover a gift of $1,000 to reach 3,000 young people.
  • Or give $10,000 from your IRA to share the Gospel with 30,000.
  • You might even wish to make the maximum $100,000 donation and personally reach 300,000 boys and girls with God’s life-transforming Word!

Whatever amount you choose, you can take joy in knowing your IRA gift will bring the hope of Jesus Christ to boys and girls everywhere.

If you would like to make a rollover donation from your IRA, simply request the rollover forms from your IRA custodian. Or for more information, contact Dylan Dixon at dylandixon@onehope.net or 1.800.GIV.BIBL (448.2425).

PANAMA

Carolina faithfully attended Sunday school classes based on the Book of Hope throughout the year. As they finished the study, the teacher reminded the class of God’s great love for them, and even said, “You are what is most important to God.” Carolina’s eyes filled with tears — she never knew before how much God loved her!

afsa

BURUNDI

Afsa found no peace in Islam, the traditional religion of his family … but when he saw The GodMan film, he joyfully placed his faith in Christ! He couldn’t contain his happiness and told his parents all about accepting Jesus — they were not happy! But when they saw a great change in his behavior, they became supportive of his new faith.

SOUTH AFRICA

A.J. wants to thank you for sending Lead Today to his school … “Lead Today has helped me to not just think about doing something but doing it in the real life. I have influenced a couple of people at my school who have been going through a hard time. It has changed the way I think about leadership.”

ayaan

You helped him find Hope and Healing

They’re Muslims in a majority Hindu region.

They’re immigrants from a neighboring nation where Muslims are persecuted.

They’re impoverished and outcast in their adopted homeland … and live in desperate poverty. And with little money and no education, Ayaan’s family not only lives in poverty but also in squalid conditions that often cause them physical illness.

For Ayaan, the bright spot in this bleak situation was the local church, where he went to Sunday School and received his own Book of Hope. Soon Ayaan decided to give his life to Jesus!

Through the book and the lessons at church, Ayaan learned that Jesus was able to heal the sick. His parents had been sick often — even now they were struggling with an illness that had gone on for months. Ayaan wanted Jesus to heal them! He invited the pastor to come to his home and pray for his family.

Ayaan’s pastor introduced his parents to Jesus. They prayed to receive Christ as Savior and received the prayers of the pastor for their healing … Within days, both had recovered from their illness!

Today, Ayaan continues attending Sunday school faithfully and growing in God as he learns more about Jesus Christ. Please pray for Ayaan and his family. Thank you for showing them the way to hope and healing!
