vaugh and lark

Transformation in Russia!
You’re sharing the Good News with the next generation.

The village of Yasnaya Polyana is hardly anything in itself — if anyone knows the name at all, it’s because the historic estate of author Leo Tolstoy is in the village, and is also called Yasnaya Polyana.

For Vaughn and Lark, growing up in a village which had been home to one of the great Christian writers didn’t mean they knew anything about Christianity … in fact they had never heard the Gospel story before a Hosanna Plan team arrived with the Book of Hope for them and the other children.

But then they did hear the Gospel — and they joyfully received it. Today, both Vaughn and Lark are following Christ as Savior! The Hosanna Plan team is now working on establishing a fellowship group for the new believers in Yasnaya Polyana — and they’re continuing to reach other towns and villages in the region as well.

Thank you for bringing Vaughn and Lark to faith in Christ by sharing God’s Word with them!

dima

30 years of ministry in Russia, and we’re still going strong!
by President Rob Hoskins

Russia used to be a “don’t even think about trying to go there” mission field — it appeared to be permanently closed to the Gospel.

But in a God-ordained turning point in history, the Iron Curtain fell — and now, by His grace, we’re close to celebrating 30 years of OneHope ministry in Russia — and the fact that we have reached 39,337,808 Russian children and youth with God’s Word since we began ministering there. We have also helped plant more than 4,000 churches. It’s amazing!

OneHope outreaches have forever transformed the lives of young people like Dima.

He descended from a long line of alcoholics, like many living in Siberia. Similar to other boys his age in Russia, Dima had thought very little about God until he attended a OneHope-sponsored HopeFest Celebration and received his own Book of Hope.

As he listened to the Gospel presentation, he was so overjoyed to learn about faith in Christ that he chose to follow Jesus.

Today, Dima has grown up to become an evangelist and has a tremendous ministry in Vladivostok, where he became a pastor and planted three churches!

In 2014, while ministering in a country that we cannot talk about for the safety of our volunteers and partners there, Dima handed the Book of Hope to the billionth child we reached with God’s Word.

God is at work in Russia, transforming children and youth by the power of His Word and raising them up to become missionaries and evangelists themselves. This year, our Russian partners want to reach another 4.9 million children and youth.

Thank you for being part of it through your prayers and generosity today!

Antonella

Hopeless, hurting, angry, fearful — Until you shared the Word of God with her!

Her father traveled all the time.

It was his job; Antonella knew that —

Their home nation of Venezuela is struggling through extremely difficult economic times. Her father was fortunate to be employed … but to Antonella it felt like he had abandoned her to the chaos of their country’s social situation.

She felt like her mother was no help — she was too busy trying to keep the home and family running while Papa was gone.

Antonella became disrespectful and rebellious toward her mother and angry and bitter toward her father.

Then you sent her local church the SuperBook program, a Book of Hope-based Scripture outreach that drew Antonella in to the stories and teachings of the Bible.

She discovered that Jesus loved her just as she was, that He would never leave her nor forsake her … and when she completed the lesson on forgiveness, she knew:

She had to forgive her father — and apologize to her mother.

Her faith in Jesus gave her the strength to turn her life around. Today she is loving and helpful at home with her mother and siblings — and she has let go of her anger toward her father.

God’s love filled her heart and set her free!

Thank you for making transformations like this possible, across Venezuela and worldwide! Remember that every $1 invested in OneHope reaches three children and youth like Antonella with God’s life-transforming Word.

Hosanna Plan: A Faith Community for Every Town and Village in Russia

Russia: Strategic Ministry Plan

Our Russian partners believe they can plant a faith community in every town and village in Russia that currently lacks an evangelical church —

And they’re doing it through the far-reaching Hosanna Plan initiative.

The goal: Provide the Word of God to every child and youth in the country.

The method: Have multiple One Year for Jesus teams of volunteers share the Gospel in hundreds of communities every year.

The resources: Utilize the Book of Hope and The GodMan film plus other OneHope Scripture engagement tools and innovative programs.

There are 100,000 villages and towns without an evangelical church in Russia. Our partners believe One Year for Jesus teams can reach all of them within the next several years.

Teams arrive in each new village or town and share God’s Word with the children through evangelism outreach events.

New believers are organized into a fellowship group with the goal of launching a new church.

This strategy has already worked in more than 4,000 Russian communities where there was no evangelical church before!

Your gift today will help provide the Book of Hope, The GodMan film, and other important Scripture engagement programs to reach Russia with the Word of God.

Russia —
You are reaching the largest nation on earth with the Good News!

  • 6,200 miles from east to west1
  • 11 time zones
  • Territory on 3 of the 4 hemispheres: Northern, Eastern, and Western2
  • Borders with 14 other nations3
  • Nearly TWICE the size of the United States

Our partners say 100,000 towns and villages in Russia still lack an evangelical church! They are planting churches using OneHope Scripture engagement programs and outreach to children and youth as the foundation … This year, they want to plant 250 churches and reach 4.9 million children and youth thereOur partners say 100,000 towns and villages in Russia still lack an evangelical church! Share God’s Word with 4.9 Million Children and Youth

Hosanna Plan church-planting teams will reach 4.7 million children with the Book of Hope, The GodMan film, and other OneHope Scripture engagement programs.

We will also be reaching 200,000 children through our GameLife sports program that incorporates the Book of Hope into game-day fun, and Lead Today, our program to train teenagers with biblical leadership principles and lead them to faith in Christ.

Russia: Local Outreach

Our partners at Omsk Harvest Church reported on their Christmas outreaches in 2018:

  • At a Christmas party for low-income families, they produced a concert and provided gifts for children (including the Book of Hope) and groceries for families — and saw 200 people respond to the invitation to accept Christ as Savior!
  • They also sponsored two Christmas film showings and distributed the Book of Hope to children and youth — and saw another 160 people choose faith in Christ.

God is at work in Russia through your OneHope outreach!

joaquin

A Five-Year-Old Missionary
Reaches Out to His Friends

Joaquin is a pastor’s son in Venezuela — but he didn’t inherit his father’s outgoing personality and was actually quite shy and reserved. Of course, he was only five years old, and his father hoped he would outgrow this bashfulness …

Then, Joaquin received the Bible App for Kids Book of Hope, a special-edition Book of Hope with stories and illustrations from the Bible App for Kids. Joaquin loved it! The colorful images and Bible stories were wonderful — and he began taking the book everywhere he went so he could always page through it …

Joaquin just couldn’t keep the book to himself! Seemingly overnight his attitude changed, and he became very bold in sharing the stories from his book with his friends! Today, Joaquin can always be found with his book and a group of friends, instructing them in the ways of God.

Thanks for helping Joaquin find his voice and share his faith!

NATION BY NATION

rayan

SENSITIVE NATION

In a majority Muslim nation, Rayan felt the deck was stacked against him: he had an older brother he felt his parents loved much more than they loved him — he was so bitter and jealous, sometimes he wanted to kill his brother!

But then he began the Stories of Hope program at a local church, studying through the major stories of the Bible with other children.

“In lesson #5, Cain and Abel, I learned about jealousy and its consequences,” Rayan recalls. He decided to trust Jesus to help him love his brother, and today he says:

“Now during the daily prayers, I give thanks for my family, and especially for my brother.”

marcel

SENSITIVE NATION

Marcel’s parents knew he was a talented musician and had sent him to a special music school from the time he was very young. Now that he has received the Good News from a OneHope program and dedicated his life to Christ, Marcel says he only wants to use his musical skills to glorify God!

pedro

NICARAGUA

An impoverished village, populated by the families of transient laborers, offers little entertainment for children — so they were happy to crowd into a home where there was a television and where they could watch The GodMan film on DVD. They were touched by the story, and today a visiting pastor is continuing to share God’s love with them.

bandline

SOUTH AFRICA

“I’m Bandile, the mom of a six-year-old boy who is on the autism spectrum. I always wondered how I would teach him about the Lord and Jesus. Thanks to the Bible App for Kids and the Bible App for Kids Book of Hope, he is learning! He loves his Bible book and carries it regularly with him … Thanks for this beautiful book! It has changed our lives.”

andel

Would he succumb to alcoholism or find eternal hope?

His brother died from alcohol abuse.

It’s not that uncommon in Russia, where 25% of Russian men die before age 55, and vodka is complicit in most of those deaths.1

Our own Spiritual State of the World’s Children research shows that 29% of Russian young people are dissatisfied with their lives.

25% of all Russian children living in families (as opposed to institutions) are being raised by single mothers.2

Russia has one of the highest teen suicide rates in the world — alcohol abuse, domestic violence, and rigid parenting all play a role in this tragedy.3

Andel knew he was following that same destructive path that his brother had walked. He was already abusing alcohol — and procuring it for his mother who was also addicted.

He raided trash cans for things to sell or barter for vodka or begged on the street.

A team from the local church came to visit, bringing food for the family and the Book of Hope for Andel. When they realized the dire condition Andel and his mother were in, they offered to help them get into a Christian rehab.

Today, we are praying that Andel and his mother will not only seek out the rehab treatment they need and be delivered from their addiction, but that they would ultimately find the hope of Jesus Christ. Please pray with us for this family in great need.
