Zhen had been to church—but she didn’t know much about God.
Her hometown church didn’t have much of a children’s program before their partnership with OneHope … and Zhen had to spend a lot of time on her studies. She was 12 years old. Her family expected her to excel in academics and prepare for a useful life. And she was barely passing her math class!
Then her church began to present Hope for Kids, our partnership program with Kids’ Evangelism Explosion which helps train Christian children in how to share their faith. Zhen really began to learn about Jesus from the special-edition Book of Hope called Pathway to Hope.
She decided to place her faith in Christ!
Then she began to pray to Him about her problems with math class … With special coaching from her teacher — and the grace of God working in her life — Zhen scored 90% on her final arithmetic exams!
Her parents were thrilled … and Zhen trusts God now more than ever that her prayers have been answered.

Andrew’s mom was always looking for love, and he got dragged along for the ride. Andrew’s life deteriorated every time he had to endure more violence, abuse, multiple moves whenever his mom had to flee for her life, new schools, and lack of friends.
Hanging out with the wrong crowd, it wasn’t long before he was introduced to drugs and became addicted to meth. He had to steal to feed his habit and eventually landed in a lockdown juvenile detention center with a two-year sentence. With no drugs to cling to and no interest in living, Andrew began to plan his suicide.
A team from the local church came to visit the incarcerated boys twice a week during the launch of a OneHope program called Decide/Inside, geared toward juvenile offenders. Through interacting with the team, Andrew encountered God’s Word through the Book of Hope, met Jesus Christ and by God’s grace his life has been transformed!

Julio had been around the drug trade from the time he was a small boy. By age 11, he was something of a mascot for his gang, dressing extravagantly and swearing for the amusement of the older boys.
Julio attended a showing of the film, En Tus Manos, which chronicles the story of a Latin boy pressured into the gang life and showing how faith in Christ can rescue and bring hope. When Julio saw the film, it spoke directly to his heart! He realized that he could easily be at the same crossroads as the boy in the film: forced to choose whether to murder for his gang or become a target himself.
He made the decision to commit his life to Christ and is faithful at his church!

In Brazil, Francisco was a teenager with an attitude. When a local pastor visited his home and offered him the Book of Hope, Francisco rejected it. He had no interest in God. The pastor left the Book of Hope with Francisco’s mother, Crispina.
When the pastor returned to check on the family, she discovered that while Francisco had not touched the Book of Hope, his mother Crispina had already read halfway through it! She prayed with the pastor to accept faith in Christ.
After many visits from the pastor and other church leaders, Francisco’s heart was touched by what he heard being read aloud from the Book of Hope. After all his resistance to the Gospel, he finally surrendered, went to church with his mother and confessed Christ as Savior!

In Paraguay, 15-year-old Carlos placed the barrel of a loaded gun in his mouth. He had been practicing witchcraft to try to help soothe his pain and find some acceptance and love– and it had led him to this. He pulled the trigger expecting to end his life… but nothing happened! By a miracle, the gun wouldn’t fire.
Soon after this, Carlos’ family experienced financial problems and he was transferred to the only school they could afford – a Christian school.
God was at work, and through the prayers and witness of his teachers, Carlos accepted Christ as Savior. The very next week, Carlos received a Book of Hope, attended a Hope Fest crusade and was trained in how to use the Book of Hope in ministry!

Khushal cowered every time her parents got into a shouting match, lobbing horrifying, abusive insults at each other. Their anger terrified her, causing her to become fearful and insecure.
Khushal was invited to a Bible Club at church, and was delighted to escape from the bickering and rage at home for a few hours each week.
At the club, she saw The GodMan film and discovered that Jesus has the power to transform lives, that He is the one true God, and delivers people from their sins.
Khushal made the commitment to follow Jesus and now knows that no matter what is happening in her home, Christ is Lord and the Prince of Peace reigns in her heart.

Brittany was born into the Standing Rock Native American community near Rapid City, SD. She was taken away from her substance-abusing mother and absentee father when she was just days old. She lived in more foster homes than she could remember, suffering neglect, abuse, and molestation.
After enjoying six months in a warm and loving foster home, Brittany was returned to her alcoholic mother and reservation life marked by poverty and neglect. “I just ran the streets like the other kids. All you see is poverty, kids skipping school and riding bikes, smoking on the corner, no parents around… That’s just the way people live and they accept it,” says Brittany.
Brittany recalls her own suicide attempts of cutting her wrists and overdosing as “normal” since reservation kids often see suicide as the only way out. “They feel like nobody cares about them or loves them.”
Things changed when Brittany attended a OneHope concert at the age of 20. There she received the Book of Hope, which “… has inspired me and touched my life because it shows me that there are other Native Americans like me who struggle with drugs and alcohol and who never really felt they had a hope or a future until they discovered God,” she explains. “I look forward to waking up every day now knowing there is something more to life than doing drugs and alcohol all the time.”

Like many millions in South Asia, Shubhendu couldn’t read. But this was not only because he could not attend school and learn, but because he was completely blind. His blindness isolated him from other people.
Shubhendu attended a showing of The GodMan film, and although he couldn’t see it, he could hear the Gospel story as it unfolded.
After the showing, Shubhendu had faith to believe in Jesus as His Savior and pray for healing from his blindness. Today, by God’s grace, Shubhendu has received partial sight in his left eye — and he’s praying for complete healing. He is constantly sharing his faith and telling friends and family members about the love of Jesus Christ.

Musa and Bento, Islamic children in Liberia, were excited to attend the free movie his Christian school teacher invited the class to attend. When they crowded into the viewing hall, not only students, but people of all ages from all over their town were there to see it too!
The GodMan movie was thrilling and showed that Jesus wasn’t just a prophet, but that He is the very Son of God.
At the end of the film, dozens of people stood and raised their hands to say they wanted to follow Jesus. Musa felt like he should do it, too, but he had a question.
Later, he and Bento went to their teacher to ask, “Do you think Jesus loves us, too? Did He also die for us Muslims?”
“Jesus died for everyone! He is the only one who can get us to God.”
Musa and Bento both chose to place their faith in Jesus Christ despite their families’ opposition to this decision.

Minawo was a powerful priestess known for her charms, potions and prayers to the sun god “Shrine” in her village in Ghana.
A team from the local church set up a free movie screening of the Africa-specific short film Half Good Killer. This gripping drama portrays the story of an African “child soldier,” kidnapped, forced into a life of fighting and violence … and eventually redeemed and healed by the love of Jesus Christ.
Although the tragedy of children stolen and forced to become fighters is common in many African nations, what spoke clearly to Minawo that night was the power of Jesus Christ to save and transform lives.
Minawo chose to follow Jesus that night and was later baptized and given the new name Martha. 15 of her devotees in worship of the sun god followed her example and committed their lives to Christ! They have publicly rejected fetish worship and are regularly attending the local church, desiring to live for Jesus alone.

10-year-old Lifen has to walk an hour-and-a-half to get to the village where the Bible Club meets. But she comes faithfully, every week — because it was there she first learned about Jesus. Lifen was enrolled in our God’s Big Story program, and collected all 16 of the illustrated cards that share the meta-narrative of Scripture.
Today, 10-year-old Lifen can tell every story in the God’s Big Story program, and she uses the cards to share her faith in her own village. Her Bible Club leaders say, “Lifen is the best story-teller in her village!” Lifen’s favorite story to tell is Noah and the Ark because just as Noah saved his family from the flood —she wants to save her family by sharing the love of Jesus Christ with them.
